Creative Training Techniques and Applications

Delivered by Marc Ratcliffe

This master class aims to provide a continuing professional development opportunity for existing trainers to hone their skills in an ever-changing teaching and learning landscape. It highlights creative training techniques and approaches that are supported by evidence-based research and is delivered in a dynamic and engaging way to model the methods that work.

Specifically, it explores some of the traditional functions in delivering training with fresh eyes (providing both tangible actions and food for thought) and tackles emerging topics such as the use of brain science in learning and development and how to create learning that sticks. Additionally, this session explores methods for dealing with difficult participants, provides advice on conducting training across different generations and offers some insight into how to manage your classroom more effectively.

All in all, this master class will share and model 63 tips, techniques, games and activities to support any trainer in building engagement, promoting retention and enhancing the transfer of knowledge back to the job.

Planning and Conducting Assessment Validation

Delivered by Javier Amaro

This master class will provide you with the processes, resources (including templates), skills and knowledge required to manage quality assessment validations in compliance with the Standards for RTOs 2015.

The assessment validation is a critical component of an RTO's quality assurance system. Validation is a quality review process used for RTOs to ensure that its assessment system produce valid, reliable, sufficient, current and authentic evidence. Yet 73% of RTOs audited by ASQA were found non-compliant against assessment practices requirements. In other words, the validation performed by the RTO failed to identify the non-compliances.

The lead assessor’s role requires high technical skills in competency-based assessment, RTO compliance and recordkeeping practices.

This master class will cover:

  • Requirements under the Standards for RTOs 2015, Clauses 1.9 - 1.11
  • Training products required to be validated
  • Assessment validation plan
  • Statistically valid sample of assessment judgements to be use in the validation
  • Conducting a validation meeting
  • Using industry representatives in validations
  • Use of validation outcomes to continuous improvement
